Turn off Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration in Windows Server 2008

After using Windows 2003 for so long, I was used to going to Add/Remove Programs to turn off IE ESC.  It’s different in Windows 2008:

Select the root of the Service Manager navigation pane, and under the Server Summary click Configure IE ESC, which is part of the Security Information section. A dialog box appears, letting Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration be enabled/disable separately for normal users and administrators.

I use a maximum of one Google Ad per post to help offset some of my blog hosting costs.

Windows 7 Beta 1 Build 7000

As you’ve probably heard, the cat is out of the bag with Windows 7 and the Beta is all over the net.

Favourite 3 things so far with Windows 7:

  • Faster startup time
  • 4 settings for UAC – you can now set UAC so you only get the popup if a program tries to do a function that requires elevated rights but it won’t pop up if a user performs a function
  • Network connections shortcut now accessible via a right click on the icon in the tray, saves a few annoying clicks

Thumbs up to Microsoft so far! 🙂 Scheduled for release at the year’s end – however July / August would not surprise me.

For those who haven’t found the downloads or activation procedure (I’m not encouraging either of these) have a look at these links:
